Genmaicha is a Japanese tea that has been combined with roasted brown rice. Originally, the rice was added as a filler; now it is added to enhance the flavor of the tea. Genmaicha is known commonly as “popcorn tea” as you will occasionally find a kernel of rice that has popped during the roasting process. Genmaicha tends to be a mild grassy tea with a strong nutty flavoring.
